Modeling Urban Growth and Socio-Spatial Dynamics of Hangzhou, China: 1964–2010

Urban population density provides a good perspective for understanding urban growth and socio-spatial dynamics. Based on sub-district data of the five national censuses in 1964, 1982, 1990, 2000, 2010, this paper is devoted to analyzing spatial restructuring city Hangzhou, China. Research methods are based mathematical modeling field investigation. The result shows that negative exponential function power-exponential can be well fitted Hangzhou’s observational density. model reflects expected state, while real state distribution. parameters these models linearly correlated information entropy fact gradient flattened 1990s 2000s closely related development suburbanization. In terms investigation materials changing trend parameters, we reveal spatio-temporal features growth. main conclusions reached as follows. policy reformation opening-up establishment market economy improved mode Hangzhou. As long has social economic environment, it will automatically tend optimal through self-organization.
